  <title>The Quest for the Holy Grail</title>

  <description>And since the Holy Grail in my case seems to be Kenzerco&apos;s HackMaster Basic game, it has been quite a quest indeed. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are no game stores in town. I live in Buffalo, NY. A city. No game stores. Not one. Zero. Zip. I gotta drive 100 miles to Rochester where there are TWO. Nice. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I have been trying Borders and Barnes n Noble for a while now and no dice. And no HackMaster either. They just aren&apos;t getting them through distributers. So today I launched my quest to the gamestore that I always went to Millenium. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I was not only surprised to find that they had no Hackmaster, but they were lacking in games as a whole. It had been about a year since I ventured there and the role-playing section is down to only three bookcases. Crap. 4E as far as the eye could see, some GURPS and a smattering of Trued20 and some anime related stuff, but lacking in much of anything else. I don&apos;t even remember spotting a lot of White Wolf there. Finally spotted Aces and Eights, but I&apos;m not dropping an obscene amount of money on a special edition leather cover for a game we won&apos;t play. Probably. Hard to get folks interested in cowboys, unless spaceships are involved. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;They are all too happy to special order me HM since they are seemingly perpetually sold out of it, but I told them that wasn&apos;t going to fly. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Out to Crazy Egors. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Why is there seemingly always a Crazy Egor? Meh. Nice guy though, even if his office is a cubicle made out of tall bookcases that he can peerover and watch you like a GOD. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He &lt;em&gt;is&lt;/em&gt; crazy. ;)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I walk in the door, he says &amp;quot;Lookin&apos; for somethin?&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yea, please tell me you have HackMaster Basic.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;quot;Yes, Maam! I love you, you crazy freaky gamer guy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Holy Grail attained. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Also went to Anime shop. Thankfully they moved to a LARGER location, since you could barely turn around in their last place without hitting something. The clerk was actually complaining about the buisness they were getting. Not the bad kind of buisness either. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;quot;It&apos;s so busy today!&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;That&apos;s because some of us want to buy import gifts for X-Mas, thank you very much. My sister-in-law wanted Pocky and Pocky she shall have. Pity I can&apos;t drop the $15 for a tub of Giant Pocky.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There&apos;s also a flat screen in front when you walk in and a sectional to watch assorted anime on. When I came in there was a group of boys watching it, who scattered upon my entering. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Oh, come on! You have seen girls before! Granted, not many dressed up for International Lolita Day, but still...</description>

Normally you can only move either before or after an attack action.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Attentive&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You have an attention to detail that few others have.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Benefit: &lt;/i&gt;You get a +2 bonus on all Investigate and Sense Motive checks.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Battle Aid&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You can warn your allies about dangers in combat, providing aid.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Prerequisites: &lt;/i&gt;Dexterity 12, Combat Expertise, Dodge, Improved Aid&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Benefit: &lt;/i&gt;While observing you allies and foes in a combat situation&lt;br /&gt;for a full-round, you can offer you allies verbal and command gestures that aid them in battle. Your allies gain a +2 to attack roll or a +2 bonus to Defense, depending on the type of aid you give. If he fails the save, he gains a +2 to his combat initiative, but he suffers a -2 to his Defense from leaving himself vulnerable.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Black Belt Defensive Master&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You have attained a level of martial arts that few can reach&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Prerequisites: &lt;/i&gt;Dexterity 12, Defensive Martial Arts, Dodge, Improved Defensive Martial Arts, Balance 8 ranks, Jump 8 ranks, Tumble 8 ranks&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Benefit: &lt;/i&gt;You gain a +10 bonus on all Balance, Jump and Tumble checks.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Black Belt Defensive Weapon Master&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Your highly tuned defensive skills can be used to great effect.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Prerequisites: &lt;/i&gt;Dexterity 14, Defensive Martial Arts, Dodge, Improved Defensive Martial Arts, Martial Weapon Proficiency, Two Weapon Fighting.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Benefit: &lt;/i&gt;When armed with a martial arts weapon, and taking only defensive actions during a combat round, you use your weapon(s) as a shield. You can deflect both melee and missle weapons, as long as you continue to only take defensive measures, along your whole body. You must be able to see the attacker(s) in order to use this skill. You must use either two one-handed weapons or one two-handed weapon. This feat grants the defender a +2 shield bonus, in addition to the normal +4 bonus to total defensive actions.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Special: &lt;/i&gt;When using this skill an attacker cannot use Sunder, or a&lt;br /&gt;similar skill, to break your martial weapon.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Black Belt Offensive Master&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Your mastery in combat situations have led to a fine attunement of your martial artist abilities.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Prerequisites: &lt;/i&gt;Wisdom 10, Combat Martial Arts, Improved Combat Martial Arts, Kata, base attack bonus +4&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Benefit: &lt;/i&gt;For a number of rounds per day equal to your character level, you can make twice the normal actions during a combat round than normal (rounded down). When the combat situation is over, you loose any remaining bonus actions.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Special: &lt;/i&gt;You can only make unarmed attacks while using this feat.&lt;br /&gt;Attempting to use any sort of weapon would throw off your timing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Black Belt Offensive Master II&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Your quickness in combat allows you to make a series of devastating&lt;br /&gt;attacks.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Prerequisites: &lt;/i&gt;Wisdom 10, Black Belt Offensive Master, Combat Martial Arts, Improved Combat Martial Arts, Kata, Martial or Simple Weapon Proficiency, base attack bonus +4&lt;br&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Benefit: &lt;/i&gt;When using your Black Belt Master feat during a round of&lt;br /&gt;combat, you may now use martial arts or simple weapons when attacking.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Blind-Fight&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You can sense where foes are, even when you cannot see.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Benefit: &lt;/i&gt;In melee combat, every time you miss your attack roll against a foe due to being unable to see, you can reroll your attack one time to see if you actually hit. You must accept the result of the second roll.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Special: &lt;/i&gt;You do not loose your Dexterity bonus to defense and can&lt;br /&gt;take only half the usual penalty to speed for being unable to see. Darkness and poor vision reduces your speed to 3/4 instead of 1/2.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Born Follower&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You excel when being directed by a leader.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Benefit: &lt;/i&gt;You gain a +2 morale bonus on attack rolls and Will saves&lt;br /&gt;when within 30 feet of an ally with the Leadership feat.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Special: &lt;/i&gt;Must be taken at 1st level.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Brawl&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You have a strong arm in a fist fight.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Benefit: &lt;/i&gt;When making an unarmed attack you receive a +1 bonus on your attack roll and you deal bludgeoning damage of 1d4, instead of the normal 1d3.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Blinding Strike&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You can strike a nerve that blinds an opponent.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Prerequisites: &lt;/i&gt;Wisdom 14, Combat Martial Arts, Improved Combat Martial Arts, base attack bonus +4&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Benefit: &lt;/i&gt;You can make a single unarmed attack against an opponent.&lt;br /&gt;If the strike is successful the victim must make a Fortitude save (DC 10&lt;br /&gt;+ 1/2 your level + your Wisdom modifier). If the fail saves the foe is&lt;br /&gt;blinded for one round for every level you possess.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Builder&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You have a knack for constructing things.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Benefit: &lt;/i&gt;Choose any two of these Craft skills: chemical, electronic, mechanical or structural. You gain a +2 bonus to those skills.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Special: &lt;/i&gt;You can choose this feat twice. The second time you must&lt;br /&gt;select the two skills you did not initially choose.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Burglar&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Your expertise and study of disabling devices has given you an insight into security devices.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Prerequisite: &lt;/i&gt;Disable Device 4 ranks&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Benefit: &lt;/i&gt;You receive a +2 bonus on disabling all security devices,&lt;br /&gt;you also receive a +2 bonus on all saving throws made against the effects&lt;br /&gt;of mechanical traps.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Burst Fire&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When using an automatic firearm you can shoot at a single target.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Prerequisites: &lt;/i&gt;Personal Firearms Proficiency, Advanced Firearms&lt;br /&gt;Proficiency&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Benefit:&lt;/i&gt; When using an a firearm set on autofire, with at least 5&lt;br /&gt;rounds remaining, you may fire a short burst at a single target. But I&amp;nbsp;digress. The guy who thought he was the Doctor was kinda &apos;meh&apos; but most of the episode rocked. A woman in red being crowned Cyberking? Cool. It might have been even more awsome if we dropped that male name when dealing with a female cyberleader, since she DID keep her conciousness. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It reminded me of Galadriel from the Fellowship when she showed Frodo what it would have been like if she were to have the One Ring. &amp;quot;Love me in dispair!&amp;quot; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yea.   <description>Pairing the new Patton Oswald stand-up special with Futurama: Bender&apos;s Game. I&amp;nbsp;didn&apos;t get it. What do the two of these have in common? Other than the high probability that Oswald is a gamer. Or at least was a gamer. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Gamers all tend to look alike. Not nessesarily because many of them are of a larger body size, but they just happen to look alike. Gamers all seem to dress and carry themselves in a certain way. Look around your local game store when there&apos;s a few people in there. You&apos;ll see what I mean.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But the last five minutes of the special were killer. He went on about this story of when he did a gig at a bar as an opening act for a magician-comedian. It is hysterical funny! To paraphrase: &amp;quot;Seriously. What does it take to piss off a warlock? Slaughter his whole village? KIll his familiar? NO!&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It all made sense to me. As I&amp;nbsp;was holding my gut from the laughter while trying to drink a cup of tea.</description>

  <description>I managed to get ahold of two DVD packages this past week. One was the Doctor Who Easter Special. The other was Torchwood: Children of Earth. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a name=&quot;cutid1&quot;&gt;&lt;/a&gt;Doctor Who was... okay. I was expecting, I&amp;nbsp;don&apos;t know, MORE from this show since they are doing specials rather than a series featuring the Doctor this year. It was good. I loved the ACTUAL&amp;nbsp;DESERT setting. The whole Lawrence of Arabia scope of nothingness. Just a vast expanse of heat and sand. His temporary companion nauseated me though.&amp;nbsp;No, mostly just really&amp;nbsp;irritated me.&amp;nbsp;Smug Catwoman wannabe. Made me want to smack her face off. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But the show was just okay. Nothing spectacular. It seemed rather average. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I hope the Christmas special is better. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;BTW- Wouldn&apos;t it have been a better idea to release the Christmas special on DVD in the US&amp;nbsp;&lt;em&gt;&lt;strong&gt;before&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/em&gt; the Easter one? Mmmm?????&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;BTW 2.0- WHAT THE FRELL HAPPENED TO ALL THE EXTRAS?!?!?!?! Commentaries anyone? Huh? HELLO!!!! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now for Torchwood. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I&amp;nbsp;loved it. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Except...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;IANTO!!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! *weeps* I loves Ianto. He is soooo adorable. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And I also saw it coming a mile away. I&amp;nbsp;pretty much saw every plot point coming a mile away. Him and Jack being all cute at the begining. &amp;quot;We&apos;re a couple? Do you think we&apos;re a couple, Gwen? Yea. We&apos;re a couple. Everyone says so.&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He was doomed. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I also knew Jack&apos;s grandson was doomed. I also expected Mom to bite it too, but no. She lived. Lookie, one surprise! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But it was also nice that everyone was actually dealing with previous events. Average people know that aliens exist? Gasp! The United States is suspicious of Great Britian because their Prime Minister assassinated the US president? Egad! Actions and consequences. Story continuity. Now THAT&amp;nbsp;was something sorely missed previously.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;BTW- No extras to speak of here either. Not much in extras in season 2, by the by. I&apos;m getting a little ticked here BBC. If I am paying this kind of money for an imported show, I better damn well get all the bells and whistles. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;That is all.&lt;br /&gt;</description>

Just about anyone can learn how to fly a starship, but a pilot knows the intricacies of the craft. Pilots become in tune with ships they are familiar with, thoroughly enjoying the feel of the craft under their control.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;a name=&quot;cutid1&quot;&gt;&lt;/a&gt;Most pilots are found steering transports along the surfaces of worlds, many also fly cruisers on and off world. Crafting an object with +1 bonus grants a DC modifier of +3, +2 grants a modifier of +5 and an object of +3 quality grants a modifier of +10 to Craft skill checks. In addition the object must be made from scratch and has a purchase DC for the object plus the bonus provided by the master craft feature. As well as the purchase DC needed to make the superior item, it also requires a loss of experience points for the mechanic. The cost is 250 XP multiplied by the bonus of the master craft item. Choose two feats from: Alluring, Attentive, Confident, Educated, Weapon Proficiency Group (archaic weapons, martial weapons, personal firearms), Windfall.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Special Feats: &lt;/b&gt;The following feats are specialized for gentry and are not available for use by any other professions.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &lt;i&gt;Inspire Confidence: &lt;/i&gt;Starting at 2&lt;sup&gt;nd&lt;/sup&gt; level gentry can use their oratory skills to boost confidence in allies and giving them moral support, increasing chances of success. Any ally that might receive this bonus must be able to hear the speaking gentry and listen for a full round for the effect to take hold. This inspired confidence lasts for five rounds. Gentry can inspire the same number of people as their profession level, rounded up. An inspired ally gains a +2 bonus to saving throws and a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls. This feat uses a full-round action each time it is used.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &lt;i&gt;Diplomacy: &lt;/i&gt;Because of their quick wits and charming ways, gentry have a bonus to the skill Diplomacy. Beginning at 4&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; level the applied bonus is +2, but when gentry reach 8&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; level the bonus increases to +3.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &lt;i&gt;Favor: &lt;/i&gt;Gentry know people, they have connections. These connections to the best and worst of society can have its benefits. By calling in favors, starting at 6&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; level, gentry can gain important information without doing a lot of footwork. Favors can also be used to loan equipment, gain documents or speed up normally slow political processes. Whether the favor is feasible or not relies on the GM. Gentry can try to call in favors a number of times a week as half their profession levels rounded down (a 6&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; or 7&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; level gentry can call in up to 3 favors a week). Abuse of these favors may turn people away from gentry when asked again.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &lt;i&gt;Resources: &lt;/i&gt;At 10&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; level gentry gain enough influence and resources (usually from family, friends, patrons and well known clients) to make use of these them during an adventure. Most often these resources involve money, but they can also be trade goods or equipment. When a genteel receives these resources (usually within 24 hours of the request) the gentry can then do what he or she pleases with them. The requested resources must be available when gentry use this feat.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;big&gt;&lt;big&gt;&lt;b&gt;Spacefarer&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/big&gt;&lt;/big&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Spacefarers are the explorers and adventurers of the &amp;lsquo;verse. Many are more at home on a ship than on land, though some have no problems exploring an abandoned mine on some distant moon. Most are naturally full of curiosity and enjoy working in locations where many Alliance won&amp;rsquo;t travel. They seek the mysteries of the universe, learn what they can and if there&amp;rsquo;s some cash reward for it at the end of the day, all the better!&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Many spacefarers are scouts, guides, explorers, hunters, cartographers and researchers. Some learn various skills so they don&amp;rsquo;t have to rely on others. Some sell their services to anyone who can afford their price. Others just follow the calling that is the vastness of space. When traveling in poor conditions or difficult terrain the spacefarer may make a Survival check to reduce his or her travel time. This reduction can be used either on land or while navigating a space ship. With a check result of 15 or better travel time is reduced by 25%. With a result of 25 or better the time is reduced by 50%. When guiding a group on land, this feat can only be used with up to six additional people. When guiding a space craft, it can only be used with the ship he is currently on.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &lt;i&gt;Courage: &lt;/i&gt;Spacefarers have to possess a great deal of self-confidence and courage in their work. Once a day a spacefarer can focus himself and gain assurance, adding a bonus to any skill check, ability check or attack roll. Starting at 4&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; level this bonus is +1, but beginning at 8&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; level this bonus increases to +2. If exposed to any effect that would normally allow a character to make a Reflex saving throw for half damage, the spacefarer suffers no damage on a successful save.   <description>&lt;br /&gt;Seriously, what the FRELL&amp;nbsp;is up with Livejournal?!?! I&amp;nbsp;try to start posting my Serenity d20 stuff and the post goes all wonky past the first couple of paragraphs. Whole descriptions dissapear and everything near the bottom gets mangled together. I&amp;nbsp;may have to save what I have as HTML and then try to copy and paste that.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And why isn&apos;t &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.margaretweiss.com&quot;&gt;www.margaretweiss.com&lt;/a&gt; working?   <description>&lt;br /&gt;Okay. I&amp;nbsp;don&apos;t mind occasionally talking about personal real-life stuff from time to time on a public message board that is really suppose to be about gaming. Especially since it&apos;s specifically for women. There are few enough women voicing opinions in gaming circles as it is.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But honestly... If you really don&apos;t want someone to give advice WHY ARE YOU POSTING IT ON A MESSAGE BOARD?!?!?!?!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I posted a response that someone &apos;didn&apos;t want to hear right now&apos;. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Well, you know what? Tough.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I&amp;nbsp;am sorry that I&amp;nbsp;upset her even more, but the simple fact is- don&apos;t expect everyone to just respond with &apos;oh, I&apos;m sorry about your troubles&apos; and &apos;I&apos;ll be praying extra hard for you.&apos; because it isn&apos;t going to happen. Not all the time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My point was we all have issues. With ourselves, with loved ones. We all deal with it differently. I&amp;nbsp;just said how&lt;em&gt;&lt;strong&gt; I&amp;nbsp;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/em&gt;deal with it. She didn&apos;t want to hear how I deal with &apos;stuff&apos;. Bascially I&amp;nbsp;said &apos;hope for the best but expect the worst&apos;. She really couldn&apos;t deal with that.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Oh. Well. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Is it cold? Yea. It is a bit chilly. But it&apos;s not like she said HOW&amp;nbsp;she wanted responders to respond. She just vented. Then apologized for it. I&apos;m okay with that. But seriously, if you don&apos;t want opinions then don&apos;t publicly post something. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;That&apos;s what journals are for. You can opt to have comments or not. You can delete comments or not. You can make your journal public or not. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;*sigh*</description>

  <title>My time has come...</title>

For now, here is mine.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;div&gt;Part 43: &amp;ldquo;That which directly follows Part 42&amp;rdquo; by Tayna Laubacher&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;As the madness unabashedly continued elsewhere in Washington state, two men sat a picnic table on a hill overlooking a quaint American town, that could have been anywhere in the nation. Accept that it was somewhere near the northwestern Pacific coast, which meant persistent clouds, chilled air and the vast majority of the days filled with rain.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Which, interestingly, never seemed to occur unless there needed to be thunder and/or lightning.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;The picnic table was situated with several other of its kin near a small restaurant. The smell of overcooked allegedly beef patties on a grill that most likely hadn&amp;rsquo;t been cleaned since late last century. But the two men weren&amp;rsquo;t actually eating anything. They sat at the table with a game positioned on the tabletop. A square board was marked with a black and white checkerboard pattern. A dozen game pieces were still in play. Those which had been taken off the board had been tossed into a pile on one side.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;One man was reading a book, the same book had been given to Woeisme some chapters ago. His eyes scanned the pages as he ignored his opponent who was rubbing his neck in not entirely teenage angst over what appeared to be a difficult decision. The man was taking the game&lt;em&gt; far&lt;/em&gt; too seriously, in his expert opinion.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;And his opinion had great merit. He &lt;em&gt;was&lt;/em&gt; a doctor, after all.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;a name=&quot;cutid1&quot;&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;div&gt;Then again, his opponent was also a doctor. At least, he claimed to be a doctor. He never seen him doctor anyone or anything. He didn&amp;rsquo;t even look like a doctor. Granted, he had a long coat and a suit. What he needed was something that screamed &amp;lsquo;Behold! I am a doctor!&amp;rsquo; Now, his look carried that off rather well. Red laboratory tunic, black rubberized gloves, and a strange set of goggles that looked like it had been swiped from the prop room of some 1960s sci-fi monster movie.&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;ldquo;Ah ha!&amp;rdquo; his opponent exclaimed and finally moved his game piece. He beamed with the proud countenance of a five-year old holding up a drawing of random crayon scribbles and exclaiming &amp;lsquo;Look what I did!&amp;rsquo;.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Dr. Terrible barely looked up from his reading, immediately countered with a single move that removed another of his opponent&amp;rsquo;s pieces. As the other doctor&amp;rsquo;s face fell he settled back into the book. Then he said &amp;ldquo;King me.&amp;rdquo;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;The other doctor then pouted. It was an adorable pout that would have made many a woman (and some men) twitter-pate with glee.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;As Doctor Smith continued to pout in a most annoyingly cute way Dr. Terrible said &amp;ldquo;It says here that sugar can lead you on a road of daily misery. Do you think-?&amp;rdquo;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;ldquo;No,&amp;rdquo; Doctor Smith quickly said, placing a second checker onto Dr. Terrible&amp;rsquo;s. &amp;ldquo;It won&amp;rsquo;t help you. It&amp;rsquo;s really a load of gobsmack. You are, quite simply, evil.&amp;rdquo;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;ldquo;Ah.&amp;rdquo; Dr. Terrible nodded, as if the entirety of his intellectual property was wrapped up into that one two-letter word. &amp;ldquo;I could sing a song about that.&amp;rdquo;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;ldquo;Please don&amp;rsquo;t.&amp;rdquo;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;*****&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Somewhere there was a pair of twin penguins wondering why Bela thought that towels were going to help them somehow. The penguins also wondered why the air in Castle Batali smelled like stewing tomatoes, and if there was perhaps a giant potato masher somewhere in the vicinity with which to pulverize some annoying secondary characters that somehow managed to get them all into a rather precarious position.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;They also wanted fish.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</description>
